The Next Era of Pulsed Light Therapy
Both BBL HERO and BBL HEROic offer advanced pulsed light technology that effectively targets a broad spectrum of skin conditions anywhere on the body to enhance skin tone, texture, elasticity, and overall appearance. The treatment is a powerful minimal-to-no-downtime solution for sun damage, rosacea, redness, dullness, pigmented lesions, vascular issues, and other skin quality issues.
BBL HEROic’s novel technological innovations, such as Intelligent Control™ (IC™) software and Skin Positioning System™ (SPS™), facilitate faster and a more precise treatment option that boost comfort and deliver remarkable results for a wide range of skin conditions.
HOW IT WORKS
The BroadBand Light Therapy technology works to gently heat the upper layers of the skin. As light energy is absorbed, it stimulates skin cells to generate new collagen. This helps to restore the skin to a youthful state, safely, with virtually no downtime. Pigmentation issues associated with the skin, such as facial redness, sun/age spots, small facial vessels, and hyperpigmentation, will gradually fade away after 2-5 treatments. Popular treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage, arms, and hands.
The treatment itself will take between a few minutes and a half an hour. During the procedure, your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may feel a warm sensation as the light is absorbed into your skin, but this is generally not uncomfortable. A topical anesthetic is sometimes used to be able to perform more aggressive treatments comfortably.
Your Faces Medspa laser specialist will provide you with information and advice on how to care for your skin following your treatment. You might experience redness for the first few hours. You may also see an initial darkening of some treated areas. These areas will fade and flake off, revealing fresh, rejuvenated new skin beneath. After any BBL treatment, it is important to avoid direct sunlight until the treated areas are healed. You should be able to go back to work and your regular activities immediately.

The Advancements in BroadBand Light Therapy
Sciton continues to innovate and expand its BBL technology, which we have grown to love at
Givens MD | Faces Medspa. We are extremely grateful and excited to continue to bring on the newest and greatest technology to Dubuque, BBL HEROic, while still offering BBL HERO as a treatment option.
BroadBand Light (BBL)
Since 2004, Sciton has led the way with the development of proprietary BroadBand Light (BBL) photorejuvenation technology that effectively addresses not only pigmentation and vascular concerns but also acne, permanent hair reduction, skin firming, and improving the appearance of aging skin.
BBL® HERO™
In 2020, Sciton set a new benchmark with the launch of BBL HERO (High Energy Rapid Output). HERO represented a significant advancement in performance, enhanced cooling, peak power, and speed. It proved to be up to 9X faster than other IPL devices when considering fluences, spot sizes, and repetition rates, making it the fastest, safest, and most versatile pulsed light technology at that time.
BBL® HEROic™
In 2024, Sciton created the world’s first smart pulsed light device, BBL HEROic. Utilizing the same technology from BBL HERO, they added next-generation functionalities to HEROic for quicker, more comfortable, and more accurate results.

What do neuromodulators do?Neuromodulators (including Botox and Dysport) relax the muscles and reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the face and neck. These treatments combat forehead lines, glabella lines ("11's" between the brows), crows feet (around the eyes), smile lines, neck lines, and other wrinkles associated with aging. They can also be used to help sculpt and lift facial features including for a nonsurgical brow lift and a nonsurgical neck lift.
-
What is the difference between BOTOX and Dysport? While BOTOX and Dysport both use the same substance (botulinum toxin A) and are based on the same mechanism of action, the size of the molecules in the injections are significantly different. Dysport contains smaller molecules of botulinum toxin type A than BOTOX. - Dysport can spread through your cells more easily - Dysport may begin working slightly faster than BOTOX - Results from Dysport and Botox last for a similar amount of time
-
How many units of Botox will I need? How many units of Dysport will I need? The amount of units needed can differ from person to person depending upon your desired outcome, the area of concern to be treated, the strength of the muscles in the area, and whether the treatment is for prevention or to treat existing fine lines and wrinkles and their severity.
-
When will I see results from Botox and Dysport? Most patients can expect to notice early results of Dysport between two to five days following treatment, while results from Botox may take seven to fourteen days. The degree of muscle relation can continue to evolve for about two weeks and the results last for three to four months. The longer the BOTOX treatments have been routinely performed, the more relaxed the facial wrinkles will appear over time. Results of Dysport are similar, but often with a slightly quicker onset of action.
-
How long does Botox last? How long does Dysport last? Results may vary based upon the dose given, as well as on muscle strength of the area and metabolism, as our bodies metabolize (or break down) the Neuromodulators over time. Treatment to maintain your results are recommend every three to four months. Using medical grade skin care products at home as part of a daily skin care regime can help to maintain your results and improve the appearance and quality of your skin.
-
Does Botox and Dysport hurt? Many of us are not big fans of shots, especially needles in general. However, Neuromodulators are generally quickly injected with a minimal amount of discomfort, using the smallest needle available. Many of our patients barely notice the injections.
-
Who are good candidates for BOTOX and Dysport?BOTOX and Dysport have been proven safe and effective for treatment of a wide variety of patient and wrinkle types, however, the earlier the treatment is started, the more favorable the results can be. Some patients are not candidates for this type of treatment and include those diagnosed with neurological conditions or disorders affecting muscle movement, history of allergy to the botulinum toxin product, or those with unrealistic expectations from the treatment. Patients who are pregnant or nursing are discouraged from undergoing treatment.
