Kybella® is a first-in-class treatment that permanently dissolves fat from the submental area (under the chin) without surgery.  It is FDA approved, and Dr. Givens at Faces Medspa is proud to be the first in the area to provide this amazing treatment. Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella® is a natural substance found in the body and works to destroy fat cells. The treatment is performed with several small injections into the fat tissue under the chin. Over the next several days, the fat cells are dissolved, and the body then clears them and experiences tightening in the area over the next month.  A series of 2-3 treatments are required.

KYBELLA is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, otherwise known as the “double chin.” It is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition that can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of stored fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Treatment with KYBELLA in Dubuque at Faces Medspa is customized to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile. Once the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA, retreatment is not expected. It may take 2-6 sessions to achieve desired results. Results will vary from client to client.

How long will it take to see Kybella results?

The results of Kybella are not immediate. After Kybella has been administered, the body then eliminates the fat slowly over a few weeks. Once these cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Kybella will cause the fat cells to diminish over the course of the next month following your treatment. You may see results over one treatment; However multiple treatments are usually needed.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is an injectable treatment to reduce the double chin. Kybella contains a naturally-occurring ingredient called deoxycholic acid, something your body already produces. This ingredient destroys fat cells. Afterwards, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella?

Anyone wishing to reduce their double chin without surgery or liposuction is an ideal candidate for non-surgical Kybella. Sometimes, sloping and fullness of the neck may be caused by excess muscle, skin, or other deeper tissue and these things will not be improved with Kybella. Your injector will assess the amount of fat present at your consultation.

Is Kybella permanent?

Yes, the results from Kybella are long term, as fat is targeted, destroyed and removed. For those who are experiencing fat accumulation without regarding to being overweight, a dramatic improvement to your appearance can be experienced in just a few treatments. Even if you gain weight, the destroyed fat cells cannot re-accumulate fat.

Does Kybella hurt?

Kybella is known to cause some discomfort. A burning sensation along with pressure is typically felt when being injected with Kybella. Ice is applied to the area to aid swelling and discomfort.

Is there downtime after a Kybella treatment?

There is technically no downtime required after Kybella, and you do not need to schedule any time off of work; However, your neck will be somewhat swollen and sore. Some patients prefer to schedule their treatment over the weekend.

With the use of dermal fillers, we can immediately smooth out unwanted lines; add definition to lips, cheeks, or jawlines; and even fill in certain acne scars with little-to-no downtime.
