Why choose a Facial Plastic Surgeon? Education, Experience, and Talent. After medical school, a Facial Plastic Surgeon first completes a 5 year accredited residency in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery. Unlike other specialties, the training focuses exclusively on the head, face, and neck and includes both medical and surgical issues. During training, the surgeon treats patients of all ages from premature infants to the elderly, and perfects complex functional, cosmetic, and reconstructive procedures. After training and board certification by AAOHNS, the surgeon has the opportunity to demonstrate his knowledge, experience, and surgical skill by applying for secondary board certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His portfolio of facial plastic surgical procedures that he has performed is reviewed, and he must qualify with a rigorous written exam, and excel at an oral examination given by the nation’s most respected Facial Plastic Surgeons. No other training background prepares the surgeon to this degree with respect to the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck, and the ability to analyze and execute cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures of the face and neck. By choosing a board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, you can be assured of the best care and results.
