FACE LIFT AND NECK LIFT
The aim of all facial cosmetic and plastic surgery should be to create balance and harmony, while retaining a natural, healthy and realistic appearance. Also known as a rhytidectomy, face lifts are one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the United States. A face lift involves moving skin, tissue and muscle in order to recontour the face and create a smoother, younger-looking profile.
During a face lift and neck lift procedure, Dr. Givens makes incisions in the hairline and along the contours of the ear to minimize the appearance of scars after healing. The skin is not only lifted and redraped, but the underlying structures are also elevated and restructured for improved facial contours. When necessary, liposuction or targeted fat removal is also added to remove localized fat deposits, and muscles are tightened to improve overall tone and shape.
Face lift procedures are completely customized at Faces Medspa by Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Daniel J. Givens. Face lifts can also be performed in conjunction with other procedures, which can be discussed during your consultation. Many patients are surprised to learn that the procedure can be performed safely and comfortably in our office surgery suite with local anesthesia and light relaxing medication.
Sagging jowls and a droopiong corner of the mouth contribute to an aged appearance. In these cases, a "mini lift" or "mini facelift" can be performed with minimal downtime.
For patients with more advanced aging changes, a deep plane face and neck lift is performed for the most powerful improvement. The deep plane face lift is Dr. Givens' signature procedure. Here, the goal is to reduce the appearance of jowling, sagging lower facial features, sagging skin on the neck, and banding on the neck. The end result is, to harmonize the facial features and balance the results. Similarly, patients are sometimes born with a sloped neck, and lack of a defined jawline. Even younger patients may choose to undergo a deep neck lift procedure, where the features of the neck are carefully sculpted to create a tight and refined jawline. A deep neck lift can be performed through a single small incision under the chin, without any traditional face lift incisions.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Am I a candidate for a facelift?
What is the healing process of a facelift?
What does a facelift scar look like?
A typical facelift incision is carefully placed in the contours around the ear, and oftentimes extends behind the ear as well. The length of the incision depends on the amount of skin to be removed. During surgery, Dr. Givens takes great care to place incisions in a way that will result in discreet scars that are typically unnoticeable, once healed. Are there facelift alternatives in Dubuque, Iowa?
The decision to undergo facial surgery should never be taken lightly, and many patients are not ready for surgery. For this reason, we offer other minimally invasive options such as Silhouette lift for lifting of the cheeks, and Secret RF for skin tightening. It is important to note, however, that results from less invasive procedures do not come close to the results from surgery.
What are the benefits of a facelift?
What is a weekend facelift?
A weekend facelift is also commonly referred to as a mini facelift. A mini facelift addresses mild sagging along the jowls or jawline, but does not improve the neck.
How long does swelling and bruising last after a facelift?
What does a necklift involve?
A necklift is typically performed as part of a deep plane facelift. A small incision is created under the chin, excess fat is removed, and the muscles are tightened. Excess skin is redraped and removed via incisions placed behind the ears at the hairline.
What is the recovery like for a facelift and necklift?
Following a deep plane face and neck lift, patients are advised to keep their head still and avoid turning or twisting for the first few days. Applying cold compresses and keeping the head elevated for the first 48 hours can help minimize swelling, though swelling and bruising may last up to ten days. The sutures are usually removed in one week, and most patients can return to work and resume normal daily activities within two weeks. Strenuous activities such as exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks.
How long do facelift/necklift results last?
The results of a deep plane facelift and/or necklift may last ten years or longer. The procedure does not stop the clock, however as you continue to age, your face/neck will look younger than if you had never had the surgery. In general, results from "mini liftts" do not last as long, but this is because the other areas not initially treated by the lift will start to show their age. In this case, a standard deep plane lift can be performed to treat all of the affected areas.
With the use of dermal fillers, we can immediately smooth out unwanted lines; add definition to lips, cheeks, or jaw lines; and even fill in certain acne scars with little-to-no down time.
