Innovations in Regenerative Medicine: Nanofat Skin Rejuvenation

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and volume, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and a loss of youthfulness. While traditional fillers help restore some of this lost volume, they require repeated treatments and don't actually help improve the skin's health and appearance.

What is regenerative medicine?

When utilizing regenerative medicine treatments, the aim is to help the body help itself, restoring volume and skin health naturally. At Givens MD | Faces Medspa, we have been using regenerative treatments such as Sculptra (a biostimulafory filler) PRP and PRF (platelet derived filler and growth factors), and exosomes (stem cell derived growth factors) for years. Dr. Givens is now bringing fat grafting and Nanofat Skin Rejuvenation to Faces Medspa in Dubuque, IA.

What is Nanofat Skin Rejuvenation?

Microfat and Nanofat transfer is a newer, more advanced procedure that offers a more natural and long-lasting way to improve the appearance of the face. First, a small amount of fat is harvested from a donor site, such as the abdomen, flank, or thighs. The fat is then processed and refined to create a suspension of tiny fat particles and adipose-derived stem cells called microfat. Microfat is the next-generation of biofiller. With previous types of structural fat grafting, the amount of fat that survives is unreliable, and the patient is "overfilled" to compensate for the loss of some fat cells. With Microfat grafting, only the precise amount of fat needed is injected, avoiding an overfilled and swollen appearance.

Microfat is then further refined with a multi-step process to create nanofat, which contains a high amount of adipose derived stem cells.

Nanofat can be used to help with the following:

  • Application on the skin to speed the healing process after laser and radio frequency microneedling procedures

  • Injections to help improve skin health and promote collagen growth

  • Injections into facial lines and wrinkles, necklace lines, and lip lines

  • Injections in the under eye area to reduce dark circles

  • Scalp injections to improve hair thickness and fullness

The benefits of microfat and nanofat grafting include the following:

  • Natural-looking results: Because the fat used in nanofat grafting is your own, the results are very natural-looking. There is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction.

  • Long-lasting results: The fat cells that are injected into the face can survive for many years, which means that the results of nanofat grafting can last for a long time.

  • Minimal downtime: Nanofat grafting is a minimally-invasive procedure, meaning there is very little downtime.

If you are looking for a way to improve the appearance of your face without surgery, nanofat grafting is a safe and effective option. The procedure can help to reduce wrinkles, restore volume, and improve skin quality.

Here are some additional information about nanofat grafting:

  • The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia or with minimal sedation.

  • The recovery time is short, and most people can return to work rapidly.

  • The results of nanofat grafting are typically visible within 3 months.
